What’s New at Viceroy Los Cabos: A First Look at the Resort’s New Era

Art & Design

Something extraordinary happens when you strip away the artifice of luxury travel and let the raw, unfiltered essence of a destination take center stage. It unlocks the sort of dynamic energy that’s always lived at the heart of Viceroy Los Cabos—a fever dream of glittering pools, immersive experiences, and stark-white minimalism on the southern extreme of the Baja California Sur peninsula.

With a refreshed look debuting in late September 2026, the celebrated resort has been reimagined with a warm, contemporary palette, new culinary concepts, and experience-driven areas for guests to get lost in. More than a routine polish, this renovation marks a deliberate evolution for a celebrated Baja destination where every stay tells a story written in raw stone, salt air, and stiff drinks.

Key Transformations:

  • The Main Lobby: Thoughtfully updated with woven textiles, sand-toned plaster, and pale oak to infuse warmth and authenticity into the space’s existing modernist form.
  • The Water Mirrors: Restored to reflect the original color concept, creating a sharp contrast to the resort’s minimalist architecture.
  • Nido Restaurant: Expanded seating from 54 to 80 guests, with the addition of a dedicated sushi counter and integrated bar.
  • Casero Restaurant & Luma: Reimagined in a contemporary palette of warm neutrals and organic materials.
  • Archaea Speakeasy: A new, 24-seat experiential nightlife concept with no set cocktail list—just a master mixologist and an enviable selection of rare bottles.
  • Nodo Market: The latest addition to the resort’s culinary offerings, featuring morning espresso, market-style fare, and full-service dining from Chef Salvatore Molina.

Authentically Baja

Renowned Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés’ clever, clear-eyed minimalism has long defined the oceanfront property, widely acclaimed by design lovers and world travelers alike as one of the best resorts in Cabo. This latest evolution reimagines the resort’s most celebrated spaces as an architectural gateway to the culture, history, and natural beauty of Baja California Sur.

Locally sourced stone, wood, and woven textiles blend contemporary aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship, while raw textures and desert-inspired hues create a dynamic backdrop in the shifting desert light. The result is a design that honors the vast geography of Baja, rebalancing Aragonés’ original architectural forms with a subtle infusion of warmth.

Breathtaking Beginnings

Viceroy Los Cabos’ aesthetic evolution ushers in an era of homecoming at the nexus of desert and sea. The striking, Aragonés-designed open-air lobby made waves when it first debuted more than a decade ago, setting a new standard among Los Cabos luxury resorts.

Today, the resort’s reimagined arrival journey celebrates Aragonés’ dramatic lines and biophilic indoor/outdoor spaces, with a material palette designed to evoke the surrounding desert landscape and the shining Sea of Cortez. The resort’s dramatic architecture blends seamlessly with the honeyed Pacific light as it bounces off expansive reflecting pools below, infusing the lobby space with contemporary warmth without compromising Aragonés’ bold, modernist vision.

A Mirror of Sea and Sky

If there’s a singular, indelible image of Viceroy Los Cabos, it has to be the Espejos de Agua. The Cabo luxury resort's iconic water mirrors wrap around every building on the property, making Aragonés’ imposing white structures appear to float weightlessly upon an endless expanse of water. It’s an effect designed to blur the boundary between architecture and landscape, creating the illusion of the water meeting the sky in a never-ending horizon.

Meticulously restored to evoke the architect’s original color concept, the pools have been newly refinished with a high-contrast interior, enhancing their reflective quality to create sharper, mirror-like reflections. Upgraded water filtration systems keep the water's surface crystal-clear and still, preventing ripples or haze that might otherwise disrupt this tranquil mirror of the ever-changing sea and sky.

Fresh Looks, Familiar Flavors

From the comfortingly familiar to the refreshingly new, Viceroy Los Cabos dining has always been an experience made to be savored. So it should come as no surprise that this latest chapter brings with it a host of new additions and familiar favorites, beginning with the resort’s central culinary concept, Nido.

This bold reimagining preserves the Cabo restaurant’s iconic woven form with a refreshed palette of organic materials and warm, earthy tones—an aesthetic glow-up shared with both Casero Restaurant and Luma (formerly Otro Bar). Expanded seating ups Nido’s capacity from 54 to 80 guests, while a dedicated sushi counter and integrated bar allow for a seamless shift from daytime dining to late-night drinks.

Helmed by Executive Chef Salvatore Molina, newcomer Nodo Market represents a bold convergence of local ingredients and time-honored culinary tradition. Hidden within the property's sculptural architecture, the intimate and experiential Archaea is Viceroy’s answer to a growing guest appetite for experience-driven nightlife. No laminated drink lists or predictable margaritas here; this 24-seat Cabo speakeasy takes an artful, almost collaborative approach to crafted cocktails. Nights unfold as a free-flowing conversation between bartender and guests, drawing upon an enviable selection of artisanal gins, single-cask whiskies, and limited-edition bottles.
