Day One:

Viceroy at Ombira Algarve welcomes your family with an undeniable warmth. The resort design mirrors the look and feel of a traditional village, featuring terracotta roofs and locally crafted details throughout the property, and the low murmur of other guests gathering in communal spaces fosters a sense of community.

The citrus-scented air and cobblestone paths guide the way through the village to your suite, where the separate living area and spacious layout allow space for everyone to claim a piece of their own. Between the view of the rolling hills and Mediterranean-inspired design that blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living, you feel completely immersed in the landscape.

Aerial view of a modern resort with white stucco buildings and terracotta roofs, featuring an ornate tower and tiered courtyards.

Enjoy the first taste of your destination with a shared glass of Portuguese wine from the bottle placed in your room as a complimentary welcome amenity, included with the Summer Family Escape Offer, as the kids head to the V Team Kids Club for a couple of hours of arts and crafts under the watchful eye of our professional caregivers.

As the day starts to wind down, regroup to start your exploration of the resort’s culinary offerings. Ombira Kitchen is the perfect place to dine on your first evening. The rustic charm and authentic flavors create an atmosphere that feels as though you're dining in the kitchen of a loved one's home.

Try the Codfish Cataplana, a traditional fish stew served in a distinctive clam-shaped dish, or enjoy a plant-based take on Portuguese Cabidela with locally sourced mushrooms. The kids' menu offers refined favorites like Pasta Bolognese and wood-fired Margherita pizza.

For a more casual evening, head to the village main square for BBQ & Cinema Under the Stars for live music, á la carte dining, and open-air cinema. As the credits roll and the stars start to come out overhead, a slowed-down pace is established for the days ahead.

A couple dines outdoors by an infinity pool with a scenic mountainous landscape.

Day Two:

The ultimate luxury? Waking up without an alarm clock. Embrace this new rhythm with breakfast at Cafe Central, where you can sip a freshly roasted coffee as you wait for everyone to gather for the day. Specialties like Ranchero Eggs, served with crispy bacon and feta cheese, and the signature cheese, Iberian ham, and smoked onion croissant, highlight local ingredients and artisanal baked goods that you can bring along on your day of exploration.

A stay at Viceroy at Ombria Algarve is rooted in immersive cultural experiences and going beyond the expected. Through partnerships with local experts and guides, you can customize your days across the Algarve coastline and the Ria Formosa to uncover the parts of the region that interest your family most.

An authentic island experience can be found a short ferry ride away on Ilha do Farol or Ilha da Armona, both famous for their white-sand beaches and warm, shallow waters. Ilha do Farol is home to Portugal’s oldest lighthouse and a fishing village that looks like something straight off of a postcard. Both islands are completely car-free and offer beachfront dining at gems like Camaleano Beach Bar and MarAmis.

For a more secluded retreat far away from internet access, the untouched landscapes of Ilha Deserta might call to you. As the only truly uninhabited island in Portugal, it’s a paradise for lovers of unspoiled beaches and anyone searching for an off-the-beaten-path experience. Watch the bright pink flamingos wade in the shallow lagoons, explore the dunes, and stop at the island’s eco-restaurant (and only dining outlet) Estamine for the freshest seafood money can buy.

Last but not least, arrange a private boat experience to explore the geological wonders of the Benagil & Carvoeiro caves and swim in the azure waters of the Algarve coast.

After a day of exploration and discovery, settle into a cozy booth at Casa E Fora for dinner and lively banter with local residents. On the menu, you’ll find pub classics with a Portuguese twist like Spanish-Style Loaded Fries topped with Iberian ham, chorizo, and a homemade pickle, and rustic bread made down the road in Tôr village, served with Algarvian carrots and olives grown from our very own trees. The kids might try to tempt you with ice cream for dessert, you should say yes.

Those stars you spotted after the film screening last night? Get to know them a bit better with guided stargazing led by our knowledgeable local astronomer, João Costa. With the help of a high-powered telescope, he'll introduce you to the craters of the Moon, Saturn's rings, and the myths and legends that are hidden in the stars above.

Day Three:

A leisurely morning by the pool is well-deserved after yesterday's explorations. With two resort pools to choose from, both family-friendly, there’s plenty of space to stake out a spot in the sun to finally start that book you brought along, or involve the family in a high-stakes underwater handstand contest. Come late morning, Salpico Pool Bar will open, serving freshly shucked oysters, tempting sorbets, and summer-inspired cocktails.

Take a closer look at the local culture and history of the Algarve in the nearby town of Loulé. Climb the Castelo de Loulé, a 13th-century Moorish castle for panoramic views, or marvel at the recently excavated 12th-century Islamic baths in the museum. The city is best known for its market, which houses nearly 100 local vendors and shops selling everything from fresh produce to local gifts. Around the corner, you’ll find Pastelaria L’Atelier Gourmet, where fresh-baked goods and beautifully presented pastries make the perfect afternoon treat.

Another way to get a glimpse of what life is really like in the Algarve is to attend one of the many vibrant cultural celebrations and festivals held throughout the summer. From the Fest da Espiga in Maya—a celebration of the agricultural bounty and traditional handicraft of Salir—to the Medieval Fair of Silves in August, which is the Algarve's largest historical festival, including 10 straight days of costumes, performances, and entertainment in an energetic display of the town's medieval history, there are plenty of opportunities to live and party like a local in the Algarve.

As you return to the resort, it’s time to send the kids to the V Team Kids Club for the evening, while the adults indulge in a wine tasting that goes on a journey through Portugal’s celebrated growing regions. Afterward, share an unhurried evening at Solalua, where a selection of tapas showcases the finest local ingredients and homemade specialties, and the menu of handcrafted cocktails changes with the season. Try the Melted Serra Da Estrela Cheese with charcoal-grilled bread and rich olive oil, or the Charcoal Grilled Octopus served with homemade pickles, romesco sauce, and the freshest herbs.

Day 4:

On your final morning, soak up the golden sun as you enjoy one last breakfast at Cafe Central before you embark on a completely personalized bike tour, led by Nuno, our in-house cycling expert. With his encyclopedic knowledge of the region and passion for cycling, he’ll craft a tour that matches your abilities for a two-wheeled exploration of the rolling hills and olive groves of this lush countryside, uncovering hidden treasures and picturesque landmarks.

After one final walk through the charming paths and garden courtyards of Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, stop in at the shop in the village square to find a piece from a local artisan to take home with you, and then it’s time to say goodbye.
