However, our professional dive team has put together an exhaustive list of dives sites that should keep you busy for a while!

Snorkeling is one of the most popular activities since ancient times, with the first references dating back to Aristotle in his "Parts of the Animals" (referring to divers using "instruments for respiration" resembling the elephant's trunk). Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, is no different due to the cordoned off marine preservation area located at the foot of Petit Piton, off our beach. Fins, masks and snorkel can be signed out at the Water Sports Cabana.

Gros Piton

Towering nearly 2,619 feet above water level, the majestic peak of Gros Piton is bound to fill your needs for wanderlust. The hike will take between 3-4 hours to complete and is a moderate to steep ascent. The hike starts at the interpretive centre in the town of Fond Gens Libres (“Valley of the Free People”). Many of the guides are descendents of the brigands or black freedom fighters that used the Gros Piton as a secure haven during the slave rebellion of 1748. A private hike is possible.

Tete Paul Nature Trail

Nestled on six (6) acres of lush, verdant land in the farming community of Chateau Belair. The hike is rated moderate and should take between 25 and 60 minutes to complete depending on pace. The trail boasts some of the most spectacular views of the south of the island, Jalousie Bay, the Pitons as well as Martinique and St. Vincent on clear days. Along the way, traditional Amerindian art of farine and cassava production can be learned, with a variety of exotic fruit trees (guava, soursop, avocado, etc…) as well as medicinal plants and trees.

Cross-Island Rainforest Trek

Enjoy the breathtaking views of the southern and more rugged Atlantic east coast. An official guide from the Forestry Department will escort the group on a four hour trek through the forest from east to west. As you emerge from the forest on the western side, a jeep will transport you to a waterfall located in a tropical garden for some relaxing or a refreshing dip. You will then head to one of the first estates established in St. Lucia for lunch before a jeep drive back to the resort via the west coast road.

Botanical-Garden Hike

This hike starts from the resort accompanied by a tour guide into Soufriere town. We first make a stop at the Soufriere market where you will learn about a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and you will also get to purchase and enjoy fresh, local fruits. After the market, we walk through the town as your guide points out places of interest such as; the Soufriere town Square, Catholic Church, First Court House building and also a few places where movies were filmed in St. Lucia. From the town, one walks twenty minutes to the Diamond Botanical Gardens and Waterfall. We spend an hour exploring nature’s beauty before walking back to the town where a water taxi awaits to take you back to the resort.

Superman Waterfall

A moderate and educational hike among lower mountain forest, fruit bearing trees will take you to Superman’s Waterfall. The 70 feet volcanic waterfall cascades into a pool below where you will have a refreshing swim and mud bath. Fresh local juice and fruits in season will be served after your mud bath. The hike continues the same path to the old plantation house of the Morne Coubaril Estate. There, a plantation tour of how crops such as Coconut, cocoa and manioc are processed will be given as well as visiting the 18th century sugar mill and Amerindian village.

For teens and tweens, there is the Spice Club Program which offers older children activities such as table tennis, croquet, billiard tournaments, pinball machines and video games. Kayaking, paddle boarding and tennis are also favored pursuits.

A favorite activity is the Sailing Club where teens learn the basics of sailing including rigging, parts of the boat, basic boat handling, and seamanship. Taught using the resort's fleet of 3.5m Laser Pico sailboats, the emphasis of the 5-6 day program is for participants to gain on-the-water experience within the protected environs of Anse des Pitons while also learning important sailing theory.

Babysitting services are available at an additional charge; advance reservation is required. There is also an additional charge for taxi service to transfer the babysitter to and from our St Lucia resort.
