Is Riviera Maya the same as Cancún?
Riviera Maya and Cancún are separate destinations in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Cancún is a city located north of Riviera Maya, while Riviera Maya stretches along the Caribbean coast and includes destinations such as Playa del Carmen, Akumal, and Tulum. Viceroy Riviera Maya is located near Playa del Carmen, approximately 40 miles south of Cancún.

Do resorts in Riviera Maya have private pools?
Yes. Some resorts in Riviera Maya offer accommodations with private pools. At Viceroy Riviera Maya, each of the resort’s 41 private villas features its own private pool or plunge pool, offering a secluded stay surrounded by the jungle or near the Caribbean Sea.

Is Viceroy Riviera Maya all-inclusive?
No, Viceroy Riviera Maya is not traditionally an all-inclusive resort. However, select packages include meals, beverages, and other benefits. Guests can book the Stay, Dine & Indulge package, which includes accommodations, food, house beverages, and more. Mexican residents can also book the Paraíso Mexicano: All Inclusive offer, while other packages may include benefits such as daily breakfast, dining discounts, and resort credits.

Is Riviera Maya safer than Cancún?
Both Riviera Maya and Cancún are popular tourist destinations and are generally considered safe for travelers.
Each area has security measures in place, and resorts prioritize the safety and well-being of their guests. As with any destination, it’s always a good idea to check official travel advisories for the most up-to-date information before your trip.

Is Viceroy Riviera Maya Closing?
No — Viceroy Riviera Maya is not closing. The resort remains fully open and operational.
In response to strong interest from returning guests, the resort will continue operating as usual. Guests can book with confidence knowing there will be no interruptions to their stay.
Any future enhancements will be made gradually and in phases, ensuring the same signature experience.

Is there a gift shop on the property? What does it sell?
The gift shop “La Boutique” is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and offers Mexican handicrafts, linens and beachwear, fashion accessories such as sandals, hats, bags, jewelry, sunscreen, toothbrushes, handmade soaps, and more.

Can I customize the wedding packages/ menus?
Yes. We take pride in customizing every detail of your events because at Viceroy Riviera Maya we understand that every wedding is unique.

What airport should I fly into for Riviera Maya?
Most travelers visiting Riviera Maya fly into Cancún International Airport (CUN). Viceroy Riviera Maya is less than 45 minutes from the airport by car, near Playa del Carmen. Cancún International Airport offers direct flights from many major U.S. cities.

What time does my events need to conclude?
If you are doing an exclusive buyout (renting the property’s 41 villas) you do not have a limit. If you are hosting a smaller wedding, the party must end at 11 pm.

Is there anyone to assist us on my wedding date?
Yes, Viceroy Riviera Maya has its own wedding coordinator on site that will be with you from the moment you arrive to the resort and all throughout your wedding activities.

Are accommodations required to host a wedding at Viceroy Riviera Maya?
Yes, accommodations are required. The number of blocked rooms to host your wedding with us depends on the size of the wedding and the season.

Do I need to provide a deposit to secure my date?
To secure a date a signed contract and deposit are needed. Then one month prior to your arrival date, the events and accommodations have to be paid in full.

Can you recommend vendors that the hotel endorses?
Yes, we will be happy to provide with our recommended vendors. If you decide to bring your own vendors, these have to be pre-approved by your wedding coordinator.

Is it less expensive to host a wedding during winter or summer?
Summer is low season, allowing us to be more flexible.

Can food and beverage be brought from outside?
All food and beverage must be provided by Viceroy Riviera Maya. Corkage fees may apply for specialty bottles brought from outside with previous approval of your wedding coordinator.

What does a typical wedding at Viceroy Riviera Maya costs?
The cost varies depending on many factors, including the number of guests, the number of nights you stay and special requests.

Are there any consulates in the vicinity?
In Cancun there are consulates from The US, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Argentina, Norway, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, UK, Guatemala, Holland, Poland, Switzerland and Sweden.

Is the water safe for drinking? Is bottled water served at the hotel?
Water is potable but we do not recommend it for drinking. Purified water is served at the hotel and provided at no cost in the guest room.

What are the locks and additional security devices on the guestroom doors?
All guestroom doors are locked from inside, there is a safety deposit box in each villa.

Is there cell phone coverage at the property?
There is cell phone coverage at the property mainly at the main pool and by the lobby area. Guests must verify with their US carriers if their services include reception in foreign cities which most of them do.

Is there high-speed Internet access?
High speed wire and wireless internet is available in all the villas and at the restaurant area at no extra charge.

What are the ADA accessibility features at the hotel?

Can sports activities (ex: snorkeling) be pre-booked?
Yes, our concierge can schedule a wide selection of personalized activities like scuba lessons, parasailing, jet skis rentals, yoga and hikes.

What type of yoga is available at the property?
Yoga class is available on request by a certified teacher who practices Vynasa Flow, Hatha and Prenatal Yoga. Guests are offered daily yoga from 10am to 11am at an extra charge and previous reservation.

What is the water temperature of the pools?
Water in the pool is 80F.

How safe is the swimming at the beach?
Our beach is perfect for swimming & snorkeling there are a few rocks on the shore so we offer diving shoes to get into the water.

May guests make special requests for dietary restrictions?
Yes, if they are allergic or restricted for something in special our Executive Chef will offer something aside the menu.

May special gifts be ordered in advance by either the guests or their friends?
Special requests can be ordered via our concierge or front desk.

Is room service available?
Room service is available. A breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is available in each room.

What type of pillows are placed on each bed?
We provide down pillows on each bed, and can substitute pillows for hypo-allergenic if you need.

Our Concierge can arrange roundtrip private transportation is available from Cancun International Airport (approximately $300 USD + taxes).

Yes, the resort generally provides a refreshing welcome beverage as well as cool towels upon arrival.

What is the appropriate dress on property?
Barefoot is acceptable in most facilities during the day and night. However, guests are to wear sandals or flip flops as well as t-shirts (sleeves or sleeveless) when visiting restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Is Viceroy Riviera Maya on the beach?
Viceroy Riviera Maya is on the beach, with Villas ranging from directly beachfront to Villas in the jungle a few moments from the beach. The pool, restaurant, bar and lounge all overlook the ocean and are only steps away.

Are there pet-friendly resorts in Riviera Maya?
Yes. Viceroy Riviera Maya is a pet-friendly resort. Pets are welcome subject to a pet fee of $50 per night (meals are additional), and pets must weigh under 20 lbs.
