The Maldives is 5 hours ahead of GMT (GMT+5). Certain resorts will set their own "island time". This is done so that guests can enjoy the maximum amount of daylight hours while lounging, diving and swimming. All transportation times are referring to the official Maldives time zone. You will be informed of the "island time" once you arrive at the Viceroy Maldives.

On your arrival day, your international flight must land by 3:15 p.m. Male time in order to be transferred to the resort on the same day of their arrival and on your day of departure the earliest flight leaves the resort around 6.30am Male time and the latest seaplane leaving the island is around 2:30/3:00 p.m. Male time.

All visitors to the Maldives must possess a valid passport with a limitation date of 6 months and return air ticket. A complimentary 30 days tourist visa will be issued upon arrival.

Dhivehi is the language of the Maldives. It displays many resemblances to several other languages from Sri Lanka and the rest of Asia. It contains many Arabic, Hindi and English words. Historically the early people spoke a form of ancient Singhalese. Many of the Dhivehi words have their root in Sanskrit. Please note that English is the most popular second language of the country. English is the main language spoken at the Viceroy Maldives but we have many colleagues that are fluent in several different languages including Japanese, Hindi, French, German, Russian, and Arabic. The currency for the Maldives is the Rufiyaa. Exchange rates are updated daily. Please check the local exchange rate when you arrive. Please note that bigger shops in Male accept all major credit cards and sometimes foreign currency although the rate will differ from shop to shop. The Viceroy Maldives accepts all major credit cards and all major world currencies. Again, please check with the resort for the exchange rates and stipulations prior to or at arrival.

Water is potable but we do not recommend it for drinking. Purified water is served at the hotel and provided at no cost in the guest room.

The temperature does not vary much from season to season and the island has a yearly mean temperature of 80°F, however, the evenings can cool off by about 5°.

Pack for an elegant Maldives vacation in a warm-weather coastal resort town: one or two bathing suits; shorts and golf shirts; men and women should have at least one casually elegant summer outfit—for example, men will want to have a nice pair of pants and some closed-toe shoes for evening dining. Make sure to bring a sun hat; an extra pair of sunglasses; beach shoes, flip-flops or sandals; and sun block. Lastly, a sweater or wrap may be needed for the cool evenings or for air-conditioned areas. The Viceroy Maldives boutique offers a selection of apparel, accessories, reading material, and sundry personal pleasures for new items or those left at home.
