Over the last three years, Chef Wafaei has used his culinary experience to make Atayeb the top Arabic restaurant in Abu Dhabi. Since graduating from culinary school, Wafaei worked in several of the Middle East’s best hotels, including Egypt’s Grand Rotana Resort and Spa, and Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Al Bustan Rotana; and in several countries, such as Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.
Wafaei’s passion for cooking started as a child, when he would spend days in the kitchen with his mother as she prepared meals for family and guests at celebrations and feasts. Watching her every move, Wafaei saw how the love she poured into each dish enhanced every meal, and it inspired him to enroll in culinary school. During his studies, Wafaei made it his mission to try as many different cuisines as possible by visiting different cities and countries. “Watching what people eat and how they eat in different countries and cultures makes me love being a chef even more,” says Wafaei.
As Atayeb’s Chef de Cuisine, Wafaei has taken his vast knowledge of Arabic cuisines and used it to help build the restaurant into one of Abu Dhabi’s finest for the past three years.
